  1. Jody Zepp was named Maryland’s Teacher of the Year yesterday and will go on to compete against teachers of the year from all other states for the national title, the Baltimore Sun reports. If she wins at the national level, that would make two in a row, since last year’s Maryland Teacher of the Year, Sean McComb, was named National Teacher of the Year.

She’s 54 years old and lives in Owings Mills, which is kind of close to Howard County. Interesting factoid: She once managed the box office for the Los Angeles Philharmonic but returned to Maryland at age 38 to pursue her dream job.

“It was a vocation and a calling,” the Sun quoted the McDaniel College graduate, who also holds a master’s degree in political science from Syracuse University, as saying. “I sort of ran away toward home.”

    Awesome! Congratulations, Ms Zepp.
